Final Cut Pro video editing
software review
I learned nonlinear editing on an Avid composer, which was very sophisticated compared to FCP version 1, in 1999. But I decided to go with FCP anyway, confident that software from Apple for video editing made sense. Each of the early upgrades were mostly features taken from Avid (I still wish FCP had phantom marks). Now, FCP upgrades are about keeping up with rapidly changing technology, especially various codecs. FCP 4, for example, enabled 24 fps editing; and, FCP 5 includes HDV editing. FCP is quite versatile when it comes to compositing and graphics. I did a series of industrial pieces for a client who was concerned when I told her I could use FCP for the complex graphics & compositing required (in addition to Photoshop). For the price of the software, and the equipment required, it's a flexible and sophisticated editing system.
